The name Saponin was derived from the word sapo, which means soap in Latin. Saponins create constant foam similar to soap in their aqueous solutions, and reduce surface tension. Saponins, are commercially used for various purposes: in pharmacy, medicine, in foam forming agents and the field of cosmetics. Saponins have a strong level of antifungal activity. Saponins are used for treatment also in pharmaceutics as they show biological activity against microorganisms.
